Bangalore: Cleft Lip Surgery Camp
The Friends Welfare Organisation is organizing a Cleft lip surgery camp on June 24 to July 3, 2002 in Bangalore. The camp plans to provide all facilities for people born with cleft lips, cleft palate, deformed nose, ears and facial scars.
A team of eight German doctors, headed by Dr Sharad Kumar Dicksheet will perform the surgeries at Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Bangalore.
What makes this camp exceptional is that the Chief Surgeon, Dr Sharad Kumar Dicksheet, is wheelchair bound, paralyzed by an accident in 1978. He also lost his voice box to cancer, which led to the removal of his larynx and neck muscles, and then he had to battle two heart attacks in the years 1988 and 1994.
