New Delhi: Winning Hearts with his Voice
Delhi based Diwakar Sharma's melodious voice recently won him the highest points on Zee TV's show Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs. The thirteen years old has made it to the list of top 10 contestants. "I have so much to learn. I will have to keep improving because my chances of winning will decrease as the competition becomes together in subsequent rounds," says Diwakar.
Diwakar is visually impaired by birth, but that does not dampen his spirits as he receives full support from his family in whatever he chooses to do. The talented boy has been singing since the age of four and started training under his guru Omkar Nath. Now, Baldev Raj and Poonam Talwar are training him in classical and light music.
"I have been inspired by Lata Mangeshkarji. I like songs, which touch your soul. If I listen to a poignant song it should bring tears in my eyes," says Diwakar.
He trains everyday for at least three hours. "I try to do well in studies, but singing is my first priority. Music is the window to the soul and I worship it," says Diwakar.
With his singing, he has managed to secure many accolades like a first prize in the Sangam Kala Group at the national level, "Saraswati Samman" by the home ministry and a gold medal for excellent accuracy and speed in computers. A short film named Diwakar was also made on him, which was telecast on Doordarshan.
He has taught himself to play the keyboard and tabla. Through the teenager is also a foodie, he enjoys playing both football and cricket." I aspire to become a great singer one day and perhaps a music composer too. I want to sing differently," he concludes.
