Standards for Government Jobs

Question: Are there any physical standard for appearing in the Civil Services Exam? Are differently able candidates allowed in all the services?

Answer: Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards laid down for admission to Civil Service Examination–2008. Please refer to the guidelines given in Appendix–III of the Rules for Examination published in the Gazette of India Extraordinary of December 29, 2007.

Of the 22 services under the Civil Services, 18 admit physically challenged candidates.

Question: Is there no relaxation in number of attempts for physically handicapped candidates as far as the Civil Service Exam is concerned?

Answer: There is relaxation in the number of attempts for physically handicapped candidates. However HP candidates belonging to SC, ST and OBC categories are eligible for relaxation in the number of attempts provided to such categories.

Question: I enrolled for the Civil Services Exam last year but could not take the Prelims. Will it be counted as an attempt?

Answer: If you applied for the Civil Service (Prelims) Exam but did not appear for any paper in the Exam, it will not be counted as an attempt. It will be considered an attempt only if you have appeared in at last one paper in CS (P) Exam.

Question: I did my B.Com from an Open University. Am I eligible to take the Civil Service Exam?

Answer: If you have completed your education from an Open School/University you can apply for the CS Exam provided it is a recognized University and you possess the prescribed educational qualifications and are otherwise eligible.

Moreover, even those who did their graduation without passing class 10 and 12, are still eligible for taking the Civil Service Exam provided they fulfil the other conditions.
