Court Orders
Bangalore: HC directs reservation in teaching jobs
In a major relief to the visually challenged candidates aspiring to become teachers, the HC directed the government to reserve one cent of the posts of primary school teachers in 2005-06 batch to the eligible candidates.
The Court was dealing with a petition filed by All India Blind Teachers’ Welfare Association seeking a direction to the Government to reserve one percent of the total 5 percent posts reserved for physically challenged. The Court, while dealing with a petition filed by Nagaveni, had on June 7 directed the Government to reserve 5 percent of primary school teacher’s posts to physically challenged persons. However, the Court had directed the government to select about 238 physically challenged persons (that is 5 percent of total 4,767 posts) as the Government had complete the process of appointing eligible candidates for all the 4,767 posts by then. On June 29, the Court directed the Government to reserve one percent of the posts available for physically challenged persons to the blind.
