Bangalore: Employment and other benefits demanded for the disabled
Over 200 members of the Karnataka State Government Physically Handicapped Employees Association staged a protest on October 13 on M G Road, urging the government to provide reservation in promotion of the employees.
The members submitted their memorandum to Mr Krishnamurthy, Commissioner for Disabled Persons in Karnataka, where they also asked for backlog employment of disabled unemployed graduates.
Mr T T Giriyappa, General Secretary of the Association said that that there were 6,000 disabled state government employees in Karnataka and since their demands have not been met all these years, they want enforcement of the Disabilities Act 1995.
He also said that Rs 1,000 should be given as stipend for the unemployed disabled as conveyance charges, along with grants for each member, in the City limits.
A meeting has been convened where the Commissioner will discuss these matters with Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on October 17, he added.
